QUOTE
Nico Rosberg has won the inaugural GP2 Championship.

The German youngster, son of 1982 Formula One World Champion, Keke Rosberg, went to Bahrain with a three-point lead over Heikki Kovalainen, and his own teammate, Alexandre Premat, close behind.

The German won today's race with Premat finishing second ahead of Kovalainen.

With only a maximum of 8 points available for tomorrow's race, Rosberg's 114 points to Kovalainen's 105, is enough to secure the title for the WilliamsF1 test driver.

"I'm so happy," said the German. "It felt as though the race would never end, it's been a tough season, but now all the pressure has disappeared now and I can really enjoy this special moment.

"At the start of the season I didn't know what to expect," he admitted, "the line up of drivers and teams looked very competitive and although I was confident I knew it would be difficult. It was great to get another win under my belt in Bahrain."

"I was pushing flat out the whole way round," said Kovalainen, "but unfortunately we (Arden International) haven't quite been quick enough this season. Congratulations to Nico and his team they deserve their success."

We will see these two in F1 within a couple of years I think. Nico being linked to either Williams or BMW and Kovalainen to Renault.

Nico is apparnltly in talks with both Williams Cosworth and BMW n00bness for a race drive next season.

At the moment he admits that a full time test drive at Williams is the most likely result for him. Imo Williams is the most likely team for him anyhow, I belive Williams own his contract, but then again Button proved that contracts aren't worth the toilet paper they are written on.

Kovalainen is already confirmed as the Renault test/reserve driver I belive, with a small chance of maybe racing for either Midland Chavski or RedBull Junior Minardiskis, I belive RedBull have been one of his recent backers, even if he isn't one of the RedBull driver development programe.

Other Current Gp2 Charges with F1 links include Scott Speed who will at least Friday test drive either the RedBull Ferrari or RedBull Cosworth next season, and very possibly race it.

Adam Carol will be testing ocassionally for BAR Honda. Don't know about Piquet, he tested for BAR once or twice after his test drives for Williams, But I don't know if he's been taken on the driver development program.

He finished it in style though, winning both races at Bahrain. Williams will probably be trying to write up the most binding contract possible for him.

I guess looking past Nico's obvious talent and potential, Williams can see some useful heritageful synmetry with him...

Another Williams Cosworth - Rosberg era... could be a pr miracle, all they need now is for Goodyear to come back.
